Benefits of Screensavers in Windows 7

Many people think that screensavers in any operating system and are present for fun. Whereas there are others who think that screensavers should be and are used to protect the data on the screen from being seen by any unauthorized person. But most people don't know that screensavers in real are used to save and increase the lives of the monitors. The technical reason behind this is when any image is displayed on a monitor the transistors (in case of TFT monitors) are in use. When screensavers are used most of the area of the monitor displays dark background hence turning off the transistors. This increases the lives of all the transistors hence increasing the overall life of a monitor. As a normal user you are not expected to know this technical reason however you can enable a screensaver on your Windows 7 computer by following the steps given below:

  1. Logon to the Windows 7 computer with the user account on which you want to implement screensaver.
  2. On the desktop right click anywhere and from the menu click on Personalize.
  3. On Change the visuals and sounds on your computer page click on Screen Saver link and on the opened box from the drop-down list choose an appropriate screensaver as per your choice.
  4. Once done you can either click on Preview button to see the demo of a screensaver all you can click on Ok button to apply the changes you have made.

Make sure that you choose the screensaver has dark background in order to increase the life of your monitor.
