Unlike legacy versions of Microsoft Windows operating systems example Windows XP or Windows 2000 Windows 7 does not require any project key during the installation. This means that even if users do not provide any product key while installing Windows 7 they can still use the operating system for 30 days. However after the completion of 30 days the operating system stops working and it asks for the valid product key in order to allow users to continue using Windows 7. This feature is provided to the users so that they can use Windows 7 and can get the feel of it and if they find it useful they can register their copies of the operating system by entering the product key. Entering the product key and activating Windows is a simple process and even a non-technical user can do so by following the steps given as below:

  1. Logon to Windows 7 computer with the account that has administrative privileges.

  2. Click on Start button and from the available menu click on Computer.

  3. From the appeared menu click on Properties.

  4. On the opened window under Protect Activation click on Change Projects Key.

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to enter 25 character product key in the specified area and click on Next button to initiate the activation process.

  6. Click on Activate Windows Online Now to activate the copy of Windows operating system you are running and finally click on Finishbutton to complete the process.

  7. You can then find the successful activation in Computer’s Properties windows.
