In any version of Microsoft operating system IP address is a dotted decimal 32-bit number which contains four octets. This IP address is supported by its respective subnet mask which allows administrators to specify as how many computers can be connected together in a particular network. In small network environments administrators specify the IP addresses manually however in large network environments these IP addresses are dynamically assigned to the client computers from DHCP servers. In later cases sometimes it becomes very hectic for normal users to identify their own IP addresses which may be asked by the administrators who might be working at any geographically distant location. By following the steps given below users can easily identify the IP addresses that are assigned to the computers which further may help administrators to diagnose and rectify the problems.

  1. Logon to Windows 7 computer with any account as this process does not require elevated privileges.

  2. At the bottom of start menu in search box type CMD and press enter key.

  3. On the open command window type IPCONFIG command and hit enter key to know the IP address that is assigned to the computer. Alternatively you can also type IPCONFIG /ALLcommand to view the entire configurations of network adapters available on the computer.
