How to Re-enable Facebook Group Chat

While using Facebook there might be times when you have disabled Group chat windows so that you cannot get disturbed by the popped up chat windows whenever any Group member types something in it. However there might also be times when you want to re-enable Group chats when you are free and want to communicate with the members of the Group. In order to re-enable Group chat you need to do something differently as whenever you click on the link of the Group for which the chat is disabled you do not get popped up chat window from where you can re-enable it. Therefore if as a Facebook user you want to re-enable Group chat for any Group you need to follow the steps given below:

  1. Logon to the Facebook account in which you have created or joined Groups.
  2. From the left pane of the main page in Facebook click on the name of the Group for which you want to re-enable chat.
  3. On the opened page click on the triangle facing downwards.
  4. From the appeared list of options click on Enable chatoption to re-enable Group chat.

  5. Refresh the page in case Group chat is not enabled instantaneously.

    I don’t have the option to “enable chat”. What shall I do?

    There can be two reason because of which you might not be getting ‘Enable Group Chat’ option:

    1) You have not verified your Facebook account. When you create a Facebook account you receive an email in the associated email address and it contains a link to verify and activate your Facebook account. Once you click on that link your chats (both in Groups and Private Chat Box) get enabled.

    or

    2) The Group in which you are trying to enable chat has more than 250 members. If any Facebook Group has more than 250 members its Group Chat Window automatically gets disabled.

      I have verified my account and I only have a few members but still I can’t enable my chat. :(

    i have more than a 1000 members, and the Group Chat is disabled .. what shall i do to enable it ?

    Dear Vicky

    As I mentioned above, if there are more than 250 members in a Facebook group, Group chat automatically gets disabled.

    we only have 150 members on the group. how come our chat box was disabled?
