Lislis Painter

If you just want to mess with a basic paint tool without any specific goal or you need to quickly create some simple sketch, there are plenty of choices out there, both standalone applications and Web-based apps. Since most of those belonging to the last category use Flash, in case you want to leave that behind and step forward by using a HTML5-based service, Lislis Painter may be exactly what you need – there aren’t as many similar tools not using Flash, anyway, so… let’s take a closer look at what we have here, shall we?

Freely available for any purpose you may have in mind (its code is also available – click here to download sources), Lislis Painter is clearly not even close to most of its competitors when it comes to features, but it’s not primitive, either, since it comes with layers, basic brushes, an easy way to share your work (you can check the galleries right here) and, at least that’s how it seems to me, its speed is way above average.

Sure, if you want to look at the other side of the coin, I must say that some really basic tools are missing, for example the Type Tool you can find virtually everywhere, even in Paint, there’s no way to save your work to a local drive other than taking a shot of your screen but, in the end, my conclusion is that Lislis Painter is one Web-based painting tool worth keeping an eye on – sooner or later, I believe it will move straight into a higher class of looks & features. Am I right or not? ;)
