As you probably know already, I’m more into listening music than converting it, but some of my friends are really into audio/video convertors, so every time I find something useful, I should get some beers. Unfortunately, it seems that my friends know everything already, so I may end up telling them about something they knew already. Oh, well, maybe I’ll get lucky with Free Studio…

Vixy, A Web-Based YouTube Downloader

If YouTube will ever get a “video download” feature, I know a lot of sites and programs will become useless, but until then… there’s still enough to say about Web-based YouTube downloaders and standalone programs, right? Today, the time has come for a pretty useful and straightforward Web-based tool that is very easy to use and exists with a single purpose: to help you download YouTube videos!

Using Vixy.net is a no-brainer – you only need to input the YouTube URL, choose one of the five available formats, press the Start button, and then wait for the download of the converted file to start. Unfortunately, conversion of the online video may take a while… but other than that, this online service is perfect!

Since I mentioned that, let me tell you about the formats available for download – AVI for Windows (DivX video and MP3 audio), MOV for Mac (MPEG4+MP3), MP4 for iPod/PSP (MPEG4+AAC), 3GP for mobile phones (MPEG4+AAC), and even audio only (MP3), helping those who only want the audio track of some YouTube video save some time and energy required to find and download an audio recorder or editor capable of taking out the audio track of a video file. Sweet!

Oh, yeah, if you’re a power user… I hope you’re not thinking about any kind of advanced settings, right? Vixy.net may be as easy to use as 1-2-3, but that means leaving behind all unnecessary features, and even some of those who may help gaining a larger user base…

Need More Than YouTube Downloader?

While today’s software goodie deserves a full review, I decided to give you a quick hint, as I usually do here. The reason? Oh, well, I guess that most people who are looking for a free program able to download YouTube videos aren’t exactly interesting in reading a review, but in downloading YouTube videos, right? To make it even more interesting, today’s program can help you download videos from a few dozens of video services, not to mention its additional features!

Available for all popular platforms (Windows, Linux and Mac OS X), xVideoServiceThief is an amazing product, developed by XESC & TECHNOLOGY and released under the terms of GNU License. To be honest, I can tell you that no commercial product from this category can beat it, and I can only wish they find the resources to keep an eye on all services currently supported and update the program as often as possible. The reason? Oh, well… I can’t say I managed to download all the files that I tried, since I wasn’t able to get a single video from MySpace and GameSpot.

Currently, the last version is 2.4, supports 17 languages, allows you to convert downloaded videos, schedule downloads, and even block support for adult websites (YouPorn, RedTube, PornoTube and others), protecting this feature with a password, while its video search capabilities are really impressive. Awesome, I tell you, pure awesomeness!!!

To close this with the most precious piece of info for video freaks, let me just add that this version I have installed on my computer has support for 77 services! Even if we suppose that about a dozen are not working properly (I didn’t manage to test each of them), there’s still a serious amount of video at your disposal. Now, if only your connection would be fast enough to handle it… and your hard drive large enough to store such huge amounts of content!

Download HD YouTube Videos!

At the end of last week, I discovered Home. Yeah, I am talking about the HD YouTube movie that already got over 500,000 views in a few weeks and a lot of people are talking about. I know this isn’t exactly a PC tip, but you should spare two hours to see it and reflect about it for a while. Anyway, seeing this movie made me eager to download it, and that’s exactly what I did. Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to get it in HD resolution, but…

… at least I managed to get some other HD videos off YouTube, and that’s exactly the trick I want to tell you about today! After all, if you ever watched some YouTube HD video, I am sure you also wished to download it, and that’s exactly where YouTube Downloader HD steps in the spotlight!

Sure, I know everybody’s talking about YouTube downloaders, since I am sure there are plenty of programs and tricks to make you capable of downloading YouTube videos, but I think that – at least until somebody proves me wrong – YouTube Downloader HD is the best tool one can use to get some excellent 1280X720 HD videos without breaking a sweat, and now I will prove you why…

First of all, YouTube Downloader HD is a clean program – no ads, no toolbars, no spyware, nothing like that. Even better, it’s completely free, and using it is as easy as 1-2-3!

Once you installed YouTube Downloader HD, you should find some HD video on YouTube, and paste the link right into the Video URL field. Depending on your connection speed, the video will arrive on your computer sooner, later, or never. Well… that’s not exactly depending on your connection speed, and since nothing is perfect, I should also point out the fact that YouTube Downloader HD wasn’t able to get the HD version of the Home movie I mentioned in the beginning, and also failed to get some other HD clips as well, but I must say I was very happy with its overall success rate.

Since I mentioned video formats above but didn’t say anything specific, I think you should know that YouTube Downloader HD can save HD media as iPod-compatible MP4 files (no Mac OS X version available, unfortunately), as well as normal quality and HD AVI files. Other than these… I guess it’s trial and error!
