As far as any output device in Yahoo! Messenger is concerned the application automatically selects the hardware that has higher priority as compared to others. In cases of laptop PCs whenever an external headphone is connected Yahoo! Messenger automatically considers it of higher priority and uses it as the default output device for audios. When the headphone is disconnected from the laptop PC the application automatically configures itself to use integrated speakers as default. Under normal circumstances these configurations are not required to be modified however if users want they can manually choose the default output devices as per their individual preferences and requirements. As a Yahoo! Messenger user in Windows 7 if you want to do so you are required to follow the steps given below:

  1. Logon to Yahoo! Messenger chat application by providing appropriate credentials in its interface.

  2. Click on Messenger menu and then go to Preferences option.

  3. From the left pane in the opened box go to Video & Voice Devices.

  4. From the right pane under Select devices choose the appropriate output device from the available drop-down list in front of Speakers.

    Choose Speakers

  5. Once you are done and satisfied with the configuration click on OK button to save the changes that you have made.
