Disable DHCP and DNS Integration in Windows Server 2008

In a complex network scenario where DHCP server and DNS server both are active at a single glance it seems unpractical that both the servers could work together. This means that where DNS server is capable of maintaining a database of the computer names and their respective IP addresses DHCP server always assigns a dynamic IP address to the computer. Taking this discussion to the next level when DHCP server assigns a dynamic address to any computer (which might be different every time) it becomes a problem for DNS server administrators to maintain and update the records manually. DHCP server in Windows server 2008 is by default configured to integrate itself with the DNS and update the records automatically. However this configuration might not be quite handy in some network scenarios and therefore administrators may want to disable the integration of DHCP with the DNS. As a systems administrator in Windows server 2008 network infrastructure if you want to do so you need to follow the steps given below:

1.       Logon to Windows server 2008 computer and make sure that DNS and DHCP server role is installed and properly configured.

2.       Opened DHCP snap-in and from the available tree expand the server name.

3.       From the expanded tree expand IPv4 and right click on the scope name.

4.       From the available menu go to Properties and on the opened box go to DNS tab.

5.       Uncheck Enable DNS dynamic updates according to the settings below checkbox to disable the integration of DHCP with DNS.

6.       Click on Ok button to save the changes and restart the service if required.
