Fix MBR in Windows 7

Master Boot Record in Windows 7 is a record that contains all the bootable files which are required to be loaded into memory in order to boot the operating system successfully. Although this MBR is by default protected by the operating system however because of some reasons sometimes it gets corrupt. When this is the case most administrators simply reinstall the operating system on the computer which typically is called as clean installation. This practice is mostly used by non-technical users. This section will focus on repairing MBR which will guide the users through the process to rectify MBR related issues on their own hence eliminating the need of getting depended on the service engineers at least in home environments. The process requires Windows 7 bootable media and if as a Windows 7 user or administrator you have the media you can follow the steps given below to repair MBR on your own:

  1. Start the computer and insert Windows 7 bootable media into DVD-ROM drive.
  2. Boot computer with DVD ROM and on the first screen specify the appropriate information as required and click on Next button.
  3. Click on Repair Your Computer button and from the next window click on Command Prompt.
  4. On the opened command window type bootsect /nt60 C: and press enter key.
  5. Once done restart the computer and remove the bootable media from the drive to start it in normal mode and find the problem fixed.
