Whenever any application is initialized Windows starts the process associated with the application in the background. In other words an application only turns on because its process runs behind the scenes. However there are times when users may want to terminate any running application instantaneously. Reasons behind this may include discarding the modifications eliminating the possibilities of crashing the application etc. When this is the case users can use Task Manager to end the entire process tree of the application. Users need to be cautious though that there are few processes that require System account to run as a service. These processes cannot be terminated by any user even if he is logged on using administrator account. User specific processes can be terminated either by logging on to the computer with the user or administrator account. You can terminate any process instantaneously by following the steps given below:

  1. Logon to the computer.
  2. Right click on the taskbar and from the menu click on Start Task Manager.
  3. On Windows Task Manager box go to Processes tab and from the available list right click on the processor you want to terminate.
  4. From the available menu click on End Process Tree and on the confirmation box click on End process tree button to terminate the process.
  5. Close all opened Windows.
