Since Facebook is designed for people who want to stay connected with their friends and relatives for a new user it is not expected that he may have added all his friends and relatives as soon as he has created his account. After a Facebook account is successfully created people gradually increase their friend lists by adding new friends and locating their old friends and relatives from the Facebook database itself. In this search there might be times when people need to communicate with other Facebook users in order to confirm their identification and for this purpose they might want to send them messages without adding them in their friends list. This feature is offered by Facebook and is quite handy for many people but for some security reasons users may want to disable this so that anyone who is not added in their friends list cannot message them at all. As a Facebook account holder if you want to disable this feature you can follow the steps given below:

  1. Provide appropriate credentials on the Facebook to logon to your account.

  2. Click on down facing triangle at the top right corner of the page and from the available list of options click on Privacy Settings.

  3. On Privacy Settings page click on Edit Settings link available in front of How You Connect section.

  4. On the opened box open the drop-down list by clicking on its button available in front of Who can send you Facebook messages?

  5. From the available list of options choose the appropriate one as required.

  6. Once you are done with the configuration click on Done button to save the changes.
