When a Windows 7 operating system is purchased it comes along with its unique product key and a serial number that uniquely identifies that very copy of Windows. These two entities of the operating system allow Microsoft to identify the authenticity of the customer and provide appropriate technical support accordingly. Sometimes users may lose their unique identification information which makes them stand nowhere and the alternative to this might sometimes be that they need to purchase a brand-new copy of Windows if any mishap occurs to the computers. Microsoft understands this problem and to protect people from investing their money twice for the same product it allows users to view the serial numbers of their Windows quite easily. The process does not require any elevated privileges and even standard users can view the serial numbers of Windows 7. As a Windows 7 user if you want to do so you need to follow the steps provided as below:

  1. Logon to Windows 7 computer with any account.

  2. Click on Start button and from the menu right click on Computer.

  3. From the available context menu click on Properties.

  4. You can get the serial number of Windows 7 copy under Windows activation section and the serial number will be displayed in front of Product ID.
