GoogleSharing

If you’re not one of those who hates Google already, it may be simply the fact that you don’t know much about it, especially if you value your privacy… because Google Search may be the most popular search engine of the moment (and the most hated, as well), but it’s surely far from being a Web service that respects your privacy. On the other hand, I fully understand people who just can’t find a search engine to better suit their needs, but when they also require privacy… I think we’re dealing with a serious conflict of interest, don’t you think? Well, GoogleSharing may be exactly what you need to get rid of it!

While still in a very early stage (current version, released on the 4th of April, is only labeled 0.21), GoogleSharing has a really ambitious goal – while it won’t seek new worlds and new civilizations, it aims to prevent Google from sticking its nose into your business. If you want to hear some of the official mumbo-jumbo to get a better idea of the whole deal, here you go: GoogleSharing ultimately aims to provide a level of anonymity that will prevent google from tracking your searches, movements, and what websites you visit.”

More than the numbers mentioned above, we have the following: GoogleSharing works with Firefox 3.0 – 4.0.*, having a rating of 4/5 stars after 83 user reviews and no less than 166,753 downloads. The suggested contribution is $5 and… it just works! I guess the two screenshots in this article say everything about it – easy to enable/disable, easy to use with other proxies – in a word: awesome!!! ;)

I miss it too, hopefully Firefox will be updated to work with GoogleSharing and other older plugins… at least that’s how it should be, if you ask me. ;)
