Disable Yahoo! Messenger Sound Alerts in Windows 7

By default Yahoo! Messenger notifies chat users for every activity that takes place by making sounds. These sounds are known as alert sounds which by default are enabled whenever Yahoo! Messenger is installed. However sound card driver should be installed in the computer system in order to hear these alerts. Under normal conditions these alerts are quite helpful as there might be chances when users might not be sitting in front of computers and if these alerts sounds are not enabled they may skip any important notification. Still under some circumstances if users want to disable these sound alerts because of any reason they can follow the steps given below to complete the process.

  1. Logon to Windows 7 computer on which Yahoo! Messenger is installed.

  2. Logon to Yahoo! Messenger by providing appropriate credentials in the specified areas after initiating its interface.

  3. Click on Messenger menu and then click on Preferences option from the available list.

  4. On the appeared box from the left pane click on Alerts & Sounds to select the category.

  5. From the right pane uncheck Enable alert sounds checkbox to disable all the sounds that Yahoo! Messengergenerally makes to notify the users.

  6. Once you are done with the configuration click on Ok button to save the changes.
