How to get a power efficiency report

Battery life of your laptop is an important thing. Isn't it ? ;)

If you run Windows 7 on your laptop you can use a hidden tool that will analyze your laptop's "energy consumption" and will provide you with detailed report on how to improve its life. Unfortunately there is no visual interface to do this so you have to use command line but it's pretty simple. I hope guys from MS will make some GUI for this tool in the future to make it available also for non-tech people.

Follow these steps:

  1. Open command prompt as an administrator. Just type cmd in the search box and wait for the cmd icon. When it's visible right click and select "Run as administrator"
  2. Type this to command line: **powercfg -energy -output _Folder_Energy_Report.htm  ** where folder will stand for the one where you want to place your report.
  3. Now be patient. Windows 7 will analyze your laptop and at the end you'll be provided with a detailed report in HTML format with recommendations on how to improve your battery life.
