Whenever Yahoo! Messenger is used online users are displayed as active so that their friends or other people in the open rooms can know if they are available for chat. However in some conditions it is possible that users might not remain active on the messenger is as they might be involved in some other work. When this is the case Yahoo! Messenger displays their status as ‘Idle’ followed by the duration since when they have not been active. Idle state in Yahoo! Messenger starts if the application does not detect any user interaction with the software for 15 minutes. This means that if Yahoo! Messenger is logged on and users do not use the application for 15 minutes their online state will automatically be changed to idle and will be displayed as ‘Idle’. Many times users may want to increase or decrease the default duration from 15 minutes because of any reason. As a Yahoo! Messenger user in Windows 7 if you want to do so you can follow the steps given below:

  1. Go to Messenger menu after logging on to the Yahoo! Messenger.

  2. From the available options click on Preferences.

  3. From the left pane on the opened box click on Privacy category.

  4. From the right pane under Idle Statussection specify the desired duration in minutes in the available box.

  5. Click on Ok button once you are done.
