Disabling Gadgets in Windows 7

Windows gadgets are small applications that are developed by Microsoft and are ship and installed along with Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems. These small applications are capable of connecting automatically to the Internet and gathering the information from it. Moreover these applications are lightweight and therefore they require very less processing however they still consume some Internet bandwidth as the contact the web servers to extract and download latest information. In Microsoft Windows Vista the entire sidebar was available at the right corner of the desktop which consumed a decent amount of the space and was considered as an unwanted entity. The worst part was that if users wanted to place even single gadget the entire sidebar was required to be enabled. In Windows 7 this compulsion is removed and individual gadgets can now be placed on the desktop. Also in Windows 7 users can completely disable the gadgets which allow them to save some processing and internet bandwidth. As a Windows 7 user if you want to do so you are required to follow the steps given below:

  1. Logon to Windows 7 computer administrator account.

  2. Click on Start button and from the available start menu click on Control Panel.

  3. On the opened window click on Programs link and on Adjust your computer’s settings page click on Turn Windows features on or off link under Programs and Features category.

  4. On Windows Features box uncheck Windows Gadget Platform checkbox and click on Okbutton to save the changes.
