Since Windows Media Player is capable of playing almost every file format Microsoft has integrated a feature in the application which allows it to store every played file in its library. This configuration ensures that users need not to wander around and hunt for the file every time they need to play it instead with the help of this feature the files can be centrally located and then can be played at ease. Although this configuration is by default enabled for users’ benefit however users can still disable this if they do not want any local file to be stored in the library of Windows Media Player when it is played. As a Windows 7 user if you want to disable this configuration you are required to follow the steps given below:

  1. Logon to Windows 7 computer with any account because this configuration does not require any elevated privileges.

  2. Click on Windows Media Player icon available in the taskbar.

  3. On the opened interface click on Organize menu and from the available list click on Options to get Options box.

  4. Go to Player tab.

  5. Uncheck Add local media files to library when played checkbox available under Player settingssection.

  6. Click on Ok button when you are done with the configuration.
