Like all other software applications installed on any Microsoft based operating system Yahoo! Messenger which is installed on Windows 7 also regularly updates itself from its server. Regular updates ensure that users get the latest features of the application so that it becomes easy for them to use the chat messenger and experience best audio and video quality possible. Configuration of automatic updates is beyond the scope of this section however it covers the configuration of alert sounds whenever Yahoo! Messenger detects any updates which are available on Yahoo! server. By default update alerts are disabled in the messenger and the application automatically downloads and installs the updates as soon as it finds them. If users want they can configure Yahoo! Messenger to alert them before downloading any updates and if as a Yahoo! Messenger user in Windows 7 you want to configure the application to do so you are required to follow the steps given below:

  1. Logon to Yahoo! Messenger chat application by providing appropriate credentials in the respective fields.

  2. Click on Messenger and then click on Preferences option.

  3. On the opened box click on Alerts & Soundsfrom the left pane.

  4. From the right pane check Alert me before downloading a Yahoo! Messenger update checkbox.

  5. Click on Ok button to save the changes.
