System specific environment variables are small keywords which when typed in Run Command box or search box execute a specific application or open any particular folder to which they are pointed. For example if in search box you type Notepad a built-in notepad application is executed. In the same way you can add a desired application or folder path to environmental variable list so that it gets executed when you type its name in search box or Run Command box. The only thing you need to do is to edit the environmental variable path and the process of which is given below:

  1. Logon on the Windows 7 computer with administrator account.
  2. Click on Start button.
  3. From the start menu right click on Computer and from the menu select Properties.
  4. On View basic information about your computer page in the left bar click on Advanced system settings link.
  5. On the opened box make sure that you are on Advanced tab and click on Environment Variables button.
  6. On the opened box under System variables list click on Path variable and click on Edit button.
  7. On Edit System Variable box in Variable value field at the end of the text add a “;”and include the path of your desired application or folder.
  8. Once done click on Ok button on all the opened boxes to accept and confirm your configuration and close all windows.
