How/Why to Take Snapshots of Virtual Machines

VMware workstation offers a unique feature named Snapshot which allows administrators to create a restore point for the virtual machines. This feature is used when administrators are about to configure the virtual machines for some trials and tests and they doubt that they may mess up everything. By taking snapshots of the virtual machines they can ensure that the original state of the VM is intact and they can revert back the virtual machines to their correct states if anything goes wrong. Taking snapshots of virtual machines is a proactive approach that every administrator should go for. As an administrator if you want to take snapshot of a virtual machine you need to follow the steps given below:

1. Open VMware workstation console window.

2. In the left Sidebar click on the virtual machine for which you want to take the snapshot.

3. Once selected click on VM from the menu bar and from the appeared list point the mouse pointer to Snapshot.

4. From the appeared submenu click on Take Snapshot and in the opened box specify the name of the snapshot and click on Ok button to start the process. Optionally you can type the description for the snapshot to make it even more informative.
