In any version of Microsoft's operating system especially in Windows 7 whenever users change the themes the icons of the desktop screens are also automatically modified to provide better look and enhanced ambience of the screen. This default configuration is handled by the themes and therefore all the modifications are done automatically. For home environments and new users of Windows 7 this configuration might be very exciting and users can enjoy the colorful and strange icons on the desktops rather than watching the same old boring icons. However in production environments where the industries are categorized into small-scale users may still want to implement themes but they do not or may not want to modify the desktop icons to maintain the consistency and the decorum of the organization at the same time. When this is the case Windows 7 allows administrators or local users to configure the operating system in such a way that even when the themes are applied the items are still left intact. As a Windows 7 user or administrator if you want to do so you need to follow the steps given as below:

  1. Logon to Windows 7 computer with the user account on which you want to configure the settings.

  2. Right click anywhere on the desktop screen and from the available context menu click on Personalize.

  3. On the opened window in the left bar click on Change desktop icons link.

  4. On Desktop Icon Settings box uncheck Allow themes to change desktop iconscheckbox.

  5. Once completed click on Ok button to save the changes and close all the opened Windows and boxes.
