Specify Proxy Servers in Yahoo! Messenger in Windows 7

Since Yahoo! Messenger is used in both home and production environments there might be different ways in which users connect to the Internet. In home environments users directly connected to the Internet and in these cases Yahoo! Messenger does not require any special configuration. However in production environments there might be proxy servers installed through which users connect to the Internet and in such cases Yahoo! Messenger chat application is required to be configured with the addresses of proxy servers. This configuration unlike all other configurations requires a little bit of technical knowledge and it is recommended that systems administrators of the organizations should guide the users to do so. Whatsoever the case is if as a Windows 7 user who users Yahoo! Messenger you want to specify proxy servers in the application you are required to follow the steps given below:

  1. Logon to Yahoo! Messenger chat application by providing appropriate credentials.

  2. Go to Preferences option by going to Messenger menu.

  3. On the opened box in the left pane click on Connection category.

  4. From the right pane click on Connect via proxy serverradio button and populate the enabled fields with appropriate information.

  5. Once you are done with the configuration click on Ok button to save the changes.
