After installing DFS on Windows server 2008 and creating a namespace for the folders administrators are then required to add folders to the namespace it order to centralize the search of the folders initiated by the users. In order to add folders to the namespace folders are required to be shared before hands. If the folders are not shared administrators cannot add them to the namespace whatsoever. Moreover administrators can also specify the name of the shared folders which will be displayed to the clients during the query irrespective of the share name that administrators may have given while sharing the folder originally. If you want to add the shared folder to the DFS namespace you are required to follow the steps given below:

1.       Logon to Windows server 2008 server with domain admin credentials and ensure that DFS role service is installed on it.

2.       Also make sure that at least one namespace is created in order to add the shared folder.

3.       To open DFS Management snap-in go to start menu and go to Administrative Tools to find and click on DFS Management.

4.       On the opened snap-in under DFS Management category expand Namespaces tree.

5.       Right click on the available namespace and from the appeared menu click on New Folder.

6.       On the opened box in Name text box specify the name of the shared folder which you want to get displayed to the users who search for it.

7.       Click on Add button to have the shared folder and from the Add Folder Target box click on Browse button to locate and add the shared folder from any remote or local machine.

8.       Click on Ok button and back on New Folder click on Ok button again to add the shared folder to the namespace.
