During custom creation of a virtual machine in VMware workstation administrators are allowed to specify the number of processors that will be associated with the virtual machine they are creating. This feature provides smooth running of virtual machines however at the cost of reduced performances of host computers. This means if the processor installed on host computer is Core2 Duo and administrators assign two processors to a virtual machine the virtual machine will perform quite well but administrators may experience reduced performance while using host computers. If as an administrator you want to assign number of processors in a virtual machine even after the creation of VM you need to follow the steps given below:

  1. Double click on VMware workstation icon available on the desktop.

  2. On the opened VMware workstation console window make sure that the virtual machine on which you want to manage number of processors is powered off.

  3. Right click on the tab of the target virtual machine and from the available menu click on Settings option.

  4. From Virtual Machine Settings box click on Processors option from the left pane and from the right pane under Processors section choose the appropriate radio button.

  5. Finally click on Ok button to save the changes you have made.
